MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Rodger Polkinghorne, Thursday 12 July 2018 The weather looked quite threatening for the July lunch run to the Rex Hotel particularly when morning tea was in the hills at the Crafers Hotel. The MG drivers who took a chance and ignored the forecast of a shower or two were rewarded with only a few drops of rain on the windscreen. The cars finished the day clean and dry. The route briefly brought us through the Adelaide hills which are now looking very green following recent winter rain. We then came down Greenhill Road which these days is quite rough in an MG but provides the best view of the city and suburbs of any road entering Adelaide. Alan and Sandra Cardnell came for the first time this year so Alan was able to test the blue B and more to the point himself through the bends on Greenhill Road. Mike has grabbed a part of British motoring history with this nice looking car which is loaded with many outstanding features. It was also fortuitous that Mike should come to this run as he has offered to arrange the August run to Strathalbyn. To this end the Holmes have sadly decided after fourteen years not to continue arranging the lunch runs. They have done a marvellous job over this period. We are extremely grateful for their dedicated efforts and we will miss Diane with the red folder in her hand ensuring everything is running smoothly and David with the camera ensuring we feature in the photographic section of the magazine. To view other photos - click Thanks to everyone who came and supported the run and to first timers Barry Spencer in his green MGB and Dean Hosking in his impressive MGB V8. Next mid-week lunch run will be on 9 August 2018 to Strathalbyn meeting at the Crafers Hotel, Crafers at 10. Please book with MIKE GREENWOOD if you would like to come so the venues can be advised of numbers attending. MIKE GREENWOOD — mikeg adam. Sadly the weather gods have no respect for our need to give the cars a run and once again most were kept garaged and dry. The wet and windy weather forecast did not sound particularly great for the run from Kent Town into the hills to Bridgewater. Only one MG arrived for morning tea, however Graham Loader did confess that the car had not been washed since its previous outing. Di temporarily handed her clipboard over to me whilst David is experiencing a touch of ill health. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to our lunch ranks soon. The rain did hold off, but the wind was quite blustery so it was decided to road test the plastics with a freeway run directly to Bridgewater. We were enthusiastically welcomed by the Bridgewater Inn publican Scottie and his staff. The food and drink service that ensued was excellent. The fire was blazing in the dining room so with a comprehensive food menu and accompanying beverage list we soon forgot about the weather outside and set about problem solving for the next three hours. Laurence Foody had a big birthday during the week and got the Porsche out as part of the celebration. Not as classic as the MG TD but a lifetime of driving experiences had Laurie hitting the road for the day in the 911 MG substitute. Next mid week lunch run will be on 12 July 2018 at the Rex Hotel, Marleston meeting at the Crafers Hotel, Crafers at 10. Please book if you would like to come so the venues can be advised numbers attending. Next mid week lunch run will be on 14 June, 2018 to the Bridgewater Inn meeting at The Maid at 10. If you would like to participate please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. To view other photos of the lunch - click MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 10 April, 2018 What a lovely surprise to find the weather was favourable for the MGs to take part in the run this month. Need I say we look forward to visiting there again. Graham Loader took the opportunity to bring his magnificent Mustang along on the run — he checked with me first about parking, but that had been taken care of by the café owner, who had made arrangements for us to use the Uniting Church car park across the road. Thanks to all the members, who came along on this very pleasant day. Next mid week lunch run will be on 10 May, 2018 to The Clubhouse in Tanunda meeting at The Gully Hotel at Tea Tree Gully at 10. If you would like to come please contact us as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. To view other photos of the lunch - click MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 8 March, 2018 This was a first time visit for our group to this historic pub tucked away in the leafy suburb of Maylands. Several of our members were familiar with the history of the Maylands Hotel and I am pleased we waited until now for our visit as about 18 months ago it was very tastefully restored by the present hotels group. Next mid week lunch run will be on 12 April, 2018 to the Montagna Café at Blackwood meeting at the Crafers Hotel at 10. If you would like to come please contact us as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. We were fortunate that a smaller group of members met at the Crafers Hotel - the others meeting up with us at the O G Hotel. During morning tea the decision was made to make our own way there. In summer we tend to lunch in the suburban areas to avoid long drives home. Thank you for your suggestions for more venues new to us to try out in 2018.. Next mid week lunch run will be on 8 March, 2018 to the Maylands Hotel, 67 Phillis St. Maylands meeting at the Crafers Hotel at 10. If you would like to come please contact us as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. To view other photos of the lunch - click MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 11 January, 2018 The weather was hot so we arrived in our air conditioned cars to spend a leisurely lunch at The Torrens Arms, which was a new venue for us to start the year. It was an excellent recommendation from Dawn, however we have been waiting for them to extend the carpark to accommodate our group. Next mid week lunch will be on 8 February, 2018 to the O G Hotel at Klemzig meeting at the Crafers Hotel at 10. Please contact us if you would like to make a booking. The day began when we met at the Crafers Hotel for coffee and in 2015 when a major restoration took place in this establishment with stunning results it would have been the ideal time to include an acoustic ceiling. However, outside a very attractive area has been created, which would suit our chatty group when we are meeting in the warmer months. To finish they provided a wonderful array of treats for afternoon tea, which was appreciated by all. The mid week lunch runs will resume on 8 February, 2018. Please remember to book if you would like to come as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 12 October, 2017. WELCOME TO THE PAECH FARM FOR 9 NOVEMBER OUR LAST RUN FOR 2017. This will be a return visit for some members as we visited there in 2010. They have a wonderful collection of memorabilia, which they have been collecting since 1970. Booking a couple of weeks ahead would be ideal. We will be meeting at the Crafers Hotel at 10. PLEASE BOOK EARLIER THIS MONTH if you would like to participate. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 14 September, 2017. It was so good to see Peter Auld return this month after his experience with cancer as well as Sandy Dicker, who called in during the afternoon to catch up. Two weeks ago she had open heart surgery. What a magnificent result Graham has achieved with that car!! Only two more lunch runs to go for this year and we have started to plan for 2018. Next mid week lunch run will be on 12 October, 2017 to the Riverside Hotel at Tailem Bend meeting at the Wallis Tavern at Mt. Please contact us if you would like to make a booking. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 10 August, 2017. Hopefully winter will behind us next month and we can enjoy longer drives for the rest of the year. I have just booked the Riverside Hotel at Tailem Bend for October as it was suggested to us when we were at Murray Bridge last April. Please let us know if you have any recommendations. We enjoy meeting new faces whenever you can make it. Next mid week lunch run will be on 14 September, 2017 to The Gully Hotel at Tea Tree Gully meeting at The Maid Hotel at Stepney at 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. Cold, mainly overcast and a chance of rain. In a total of twenty one cars only four MGs hit the road with the rest being heated plastics. Nevertheless coffee at the Arkaba was a good start to the day. The run to the Victoria Hotel only took about a half an hour with the most challenging part being the section between South Road and Marion Road where significant roadworks tested us as it has every Adelaide motorist heading south in recent times. The run south was an opportunity for MG legend Mike Greenwood and Jan to join the group and catch up with some familiar faces. There was plenty of choice on the menu with the food given the thumbs particularly for the price. The drinks selection was comprehensive so by 3. The next mid week lunch run will be on 10 August 2017 to the Belair Country Club meeting at the Arkaba at 10. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 8 June, 2017 The weather looked promising for our first winter run this year. Once again thank you to the members who come along each month to support us. If you would like to participate please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Rodger Polkinghorne, Thursday 11 May 2017 Autumn is one of the best times of the year for classic car motoring, especially in the Adelaide Hills. After morning tea at the Tea Tree Gully Hotel, thirteen cars set out for the Barossa. The run through Inglewood and then the twists and turns around Chain of Ponds reservoir was at a steady pace before the turn off to Kersbrook where the road straightens out to allow more consistent top gear MG speeds. As we proceeded through Williamstown and into the Barossa the scenery became more picturesque with the yellow and orange autumn leaves at their stunning best. The grape vines are also changing colour and the paddocks have now greened up for winter. Because traffic was light we were able to keep together. Although Laurie had no idea of the rego number he somehow managed to get the keys and slipped into the driving seat for a day long test drive. The Clubhouse in Tanunda is a venue we have visited for lunch on previous occasions where they have a comprehensive menu and provide easy parking. The next mid week lunch run will be on 8 June 2017 to the Sailmaster Tavern, North Haven meeting at The Maid, Stepney at 10. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes Thursday 6 April, 2017. Across the road from the hotel most of our cars were on display in a small carpark overlooking the river. Next mid week lunch run will be on 11 May, 2017 to The Clubhouse, Tanunda meeting at The Gully Hotel, Tea Tree Gully from 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes Thursday 9 March, 2017. These hills are such a feature and a wonderful playground for our beautiful MGs. Next mid week lunch run will be on 6 April first Thursday due to Easter to the Bridgeport Hotel at Murray Bridge meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 9 February, 2017. In April we will be moving the lunch run to the first Thursday for this month only — due to the Easter holidays. It was cool when we met at the Crafers Inn and we travelled down Greenhill Road in air conditioned cars to the venue at the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club. The problem that had stopped them was a burnt-out rotor button. Jim with Joan Sandy with Roger Next mid week lunch run will be on 9 March, 2017 to The Barker Hotel meeting at the Arkaba Hotel, Fullarton from 10. If you would like to come, please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 12 January, 2017. I appreciate the professional service from this venue — it is a pleasure to do business with them. It is a great reunion after the Christmas break seeing all the familiar faces as well as newer ones to our gathering. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 10 November, 2016. Our last lunch run for the year was a return visit to The Gully Hotel after the very successful time we spent there last year following their extensive renovations. The Saloon Bar, which is a separate room was available to us again. This is a pleasant, spacious area with room to spare for the 50 members, who came along this month. Thank you so much for your continual support of the lunch runs and this year we were pleased to meet quite a few new faces so if you are recently retired as is the case with some of these newcomers do consider coming along even if it is only an occasional visit. It was really great to spend time with them over a leisurely lunch. Next year we will meet at The Arkaba, Fullarton at 12. The runs will resume on 9 February, 2017 and please remember to book if you would like to participate as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 13 October, 2016. We met at the Wallis Tavern at Mt. To view other photos of the lunch - It was a very easy run through to Strathalbyn with some unsealed roads at the end leading into the winery. This is a relaxed place to visit with a pleasant outlook and they have an extensive menu, unfortunately not available to our group, which filled the dining area. The food was very good except we were limited to a choice of 2 main meals. Next mid week lunch run will be on 10 November, 2016 to The Gully Hotel, Tea Tree Gully meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. If you would like to participate please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 8 September, 2016. Our destination was The Clubhouse, located just behind the main shopping area and in November this year it will be their 125th anniversary. I was very pleased when Dawn suggested this venue as it was new to me and it was very popular with the 50 members, who attended on the day. The club boasts modern facilities and the service and meals were of a high standard and we would recommend it to our members when they are touring the Barossa. It is also worth having a look at their website for more information, especially for those interested in the history. Next midweek lunch run will be on 13 October, 2016 to Angus Plains Wines at Langhorne Creek meeting at the Wallis Tavern, Mt, Barker at 10. If you would like to participate please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 11 Aug, 2016. During this year we included a Wednesday in May but otherwise we have stayed with Thursdays as that has suited the venues. In the past we have included Fridays when we visited the Tenafeate Creek Winery, but this year we are trying the Angus Plains Winery at Langhorne Creek for a change and they are open on Thursdays. Our thanks for your participation to create such a great atmosphere. To view the happy snaps of the lunch - Next midweek lunch run will be 8 September, 2016 to The Clubhouse at Tanunda meeting at The Gully Hotel, Tea Tree Gully at 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 14 July, 2016. This month it was a very pleasurable return to the Country Club at Belair and we have only been there once before in November 2011. It was a smaller group this month due to quite a few of our members travelling overseas during winter. We appreciate that some members can only make an occasional visit and we look forward to those times they spend with us Thank you all so much for responding with emails for bookings and cancellations — it makes my job so much easier. To view photos of the lunch - Next midweek lunch run will be on 11 August to The Lakes Resort Bistro at West Lakes meeting at The Maid Hotel, 1 Magill Rd. Bookings email djdrholmes gmail. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 9 June, 2016. During the early years of the lunch runs this was a popular route in May to see the glorious autumn colours around Mylor, however it is still a pleasant way to travel to Meadows during winter. Not that there were many MGs present this month due to uncertain weather. In October we will be visiting the Angus Plains Winery at Langhorne Creek and the final one for the year in November is The Gully, where we will have the saloon bar to ourselves as we did in September, 2015. Next midweek lunch run will be on 14 July, 2016 to the Belair Country Club meeting at The Arkaba, Fullarton at 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Wednesday 11 May, 2016. He was there wearing his MG cap to greet us at the gate when we arrived at the Keswick Barracks this month for the long awaited tour, which he brought to our attention in January. It was a very worthwhile opportunity for the 45 members in attendance on the day, which could be described as a friendly military operation as the day progressed so well starting with morning coffee followed by the tour and then a barbecue lunch. Two knowledgeable volunteers guided us through the military history, with a very detailed commentary for each group. Inside the museum are working models of army equipment and glass display cases containing priceless souvenirs from most of our conflicts. A large group of enthusiastic volunteers restores damaged equipment, sets up new exhibits - researches and maintains them. Next mid week lunch run will be on 9 June, 2016 to the Meadow Hotel meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 14 April, 2016. What a beautiful autumn day we had for our run this month with a wonderful turn out of MGs lining the car park when we met at the Crafers Inn. Around 50 members travelled south from there via the Coromandel Valley to the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club, which was recommended to us by Dawn and it was another first time visit for our group. In the past we have had some very enjoyable lunches at the golf clubs where the dining areas are mostly on a second level. From there we can appreciate the relaxing scene overlooking the course while we linger over lunch. To view photos of the event - The April run completed twelve years of lunch runs and our thanks goes to the many members, who have supported us over the years to make this a popular event. Next mid week lunch will be on WEDNESDAY 11 May, 2016 to the ARMY MUSEUM at Keswick. We will be meeting there at 10. If you are coming up Anazac Highway when you see the Army Tank just inside the Barracks fence, the gateway is only about 20 metres towards the city from there. Once inside Geoff will be giving us directions where to park. FOR CATERING PURPOSES THE FINAL BOOKINGS NEED TO BE MADE BY 4 MAY, 2016. To book please email us at djdrholmes gmail. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS fFrom Diane Holmes, Thursday 10 March, 2016. In July 2005 we met for the first time at the Crafers Inn for coffee and although it is one of six meeting spots it has been the favourite starting point for so many of our hills runs. Last year we watched the various tradespeople as they transformed this country pub and we wondered if it would ever end. Well it has been worth the wait to see the stunning results they have achieved in this space. Chris Richter had always been my best advisor on anything happening in the hills. She was a staunch lunch runner and when I booked this venue I was sincerely hoping she would be with us even though she was very sick last year. Sadly that was not to be as she passed away on 26 December and we miss her company. However Leigh was with us and we enjoyed all that was on offer — especially the many conversations taking place around the tables. To view photos of the lunch - Next mid week lunch run will be on 14 April, 2016 to the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 11 February, 2016. Thank you so much for your response to this matter. This is our most popular meeting place, where we have watched the extensive renovations taking place for nearly a year. The refurbished dining area looks fabulous so we thought it was time to book it for lunch. Unfortunately the food and service did not match the previous time. This is the brochure, which we will distribute at the monthly meetings. They are able to offer us a guided tour about 1 ½ hours followed by a barbecue lunch with salads incl. They prefer a Wednesday so that is why we are changing the day. Next mid week lunch run will be on 10 March, 2016 to the Crafers Inn meeting at the Arkaba Hotel, Fullarton at 10. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 12 November, 2015. What fabulous weather we had for our enthusiastic group of followers coming along this month. There was a wide range of MGs - mostly with the tops down - for the last run of the year with a return visit to The Barker. Our thanks also goes to all the participants, who have supported us for so many years. Next year we will be meeting for LUNCH ONLY at The Arkaba, Fullarton at 12. The runs will resume on 11 February, 2016 to Payneham Tavern, Royston Park and please remember to book if you would like to participate as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. The forecast was for warm weather so thank you to all the members, who came along in their MGs. The Tenafeate Creek Winery is a popular venue and a great place to showcase our cars for the photographs. This extends an invitation to members, who are unable to come on Thursdays. After meeting at The Gully Hotel for coffee we drove to the winery via Chain of Ponds to Gumeracha and from there to Forreston. Next mid week lunch run will be on Thursday 12 November, 2015 to The Barker at Mt. Barker meeting at the Arkaba Hotel, Fullarton at 10. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 10 September, 2015. This spring lunch run was a winner from start to finish. There was a cloudless sky all day, which was ideal for having the tops down on our treasured MGs. The run began from the Crafers Inn then followed the winding route through Marble Hill to Montacute Road where there is an amazing view of the beautiful Adelaide Hills. We would highly recommend this venue to members if they have their cars out at the weekend and are looking to stop somewhere for lunch. A few of our regular lunch runners were on the sick list this month so we extend our best wishes to them. We welcomed two couples for the first time and some of our travelers were back from holidays to tell their stories. Next month we start booking venues for 2016 so if you have any suggestions we would like to hear from you. Next mid week lunch run will be on FRIDAY 9 OCTOBER, 2015 to Tenafeate Creek Wines at One Tree Hill meeting at The Gully Hotel, 1349 North East Rd. If you would like to come please contact us as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. It is a good way to keep in touch with members, who can only make the occasional visit. So this month Kerry Barnes was on leave and I invited Gwenda Buckby, who was one of the regulars when John used to bring her in the TC. When we met Kerry in the car park she was keen to show us her latest acquisition - a smart red Mazda MX5. We were so pleased to see him looking well. Next month there is a change of venue from the advertised one as after paying them a visit we decided against it. We are hoping the weather will be ideal for a run through the hills to try out The Gully Hotel, which we last visited in June, 2007. Last year renovations took place at the 160-year-old Tea Tree Gully Hotel. During this week the hotel industry awards for excellence were announced in the Advertiser and it was good to see this hotel won two. This visit we will also have a room to ourselves — for those who can recall, it was a little cramped last time. Next mid week lunch run will be on 10 September, 2015 to The Gully Hotel at Tea Tree Gully meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. To view the other photos click MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 9 July, 2015. Our destination was the Tower Hotel, a regular meeting place, until recently when there was a change of hotel management, however when I noticed a large banner displayed across the front of the building advertising a new chef, I thought it was worth us visiting for lunch. This month, it was a smaller group, as many of our members are holidaying, being the best time of year for an overseas trip. Once everyone has returned from their journeys, there is a great eagerness to share experiences — which results in a wealth of fresh travel information being available to us. Thanks once again for keeping us in touch with more places for future lunch venues. To view Laurie's photo's - Next mid week lunch run will be on 13 August, 2015 to The Lakes Bistro at West Lakes meeting at The Maid Hotel, 1 Magill Road, Stepney from 10. If you would like to come along, please remember to book, as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from David Holmes, Thursday 11 June, 2015. Our lunch run this month was to a new to us venue south of Adelaide to the Vines Golf Club at Reynella. This followed our morning tea at the Arkaba Hotel, Fullarton with a half hour drive via Coromandel Valley to Reynella. This venue was recommended to us by Jenny Byrne and it has a beautiful outlook of the surrounding golf course. It was easy to access the dining area with only a couple of steps and our 61 members were seated at round tables, which makes it easier for the lunchtime conversations. The menu was surprisingly large offering a wide choice of meals at very reasonable prices. Diane was missing due to a cold so I was deputized to stand in with clip board. Many thanks to Matt and his staff for looking after us on this occasion. View the photos of the happy lot enjoying lunch - Next mid week lunch run will be on 9 July, 2015 to the Tower Hotel, Magill meeting at the Crafers Inn from 10. EMAIL or Phone 8336 4557. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes, Thursday 14 May, 2015. Our thanks to Geraldine, who stepped in and looked after the event over the past 8 years. This venue was recommended to me by Mike Greenwood, who happened to be away in Mt. Gambier so we missed seeing him. Hope to see Mike and Jan when we return to the Robin Hood Hotel at Strathalbyn. It is a very old pub with the most extensive menu - good food, well presented and appreciated from the comments we received from the members. Next mid week lunch run will be on 11 June, 2015 to the Vines Golf Club at Reynella meeting at the Arkaba Hotel, Fullarton at 10. Please remember to book if you would like to come as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes - Thursday 9 April, 2015. This month we have completed eleven years of the mid week lunch runs and thanks to all the followers, who have supported us to make it such a successful event. In May we are repeating the first run, which was to the Commercial Hotel at Strathalbyn, but due to the increase in numbers we will be trying out The Robin Hood Hotel for the first time. Next mid week lunch run will be on 14 May, 2015 to the Robin Hood Hotel, Strathalbyn meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. Please remember to book if you would like to come as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes - Friday 13 March, 2015. It was a great start to autumn with 58 members in attendance and we returned to the Crafers Inn for coffee before we headed north to the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club at Fairview Park, which was an excellent venue and worth a return visit. The golf club cordoned off an area for our cars so it was a photo opportunity for David this month to include them as well as the diners. This month we welcomed sixteen first timers, which would be the record for any one month so please keep that in mind as it is never too late to join in the event. We have organized one more golf club for June - thanks to Jenny Byrne for suggesting The Vines at Reynella.. They make a pleasant alternative to the hotels with views overlooking the courses and acoustically they tend to cater better to our needs. To view photos click. The number of emails are increasing each month for bookings and cancellations — thank you for that. Please remember to book if you would like to come as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. Although it was a hot day several members chose to drive their MGs to the lunch and one in particular caught our eye in the car park at the Goody Hotel. At the last general meeting we heard the good news that Peter Auld had taken out the best prize at All British Day for his recently restored MGA Coupe and now we could see it for ourselves. Our meeting place was a second visit to Caffe Primo at Blackwood with the added attraction of free pancakes served after the coffee and next month we will return to our most popular meeting place for the runs at the Crafers Inn, which has been refurbished during 2014. It was more years than I remembered when checking our records for the last visit to the Willunga Golf Club as it was in July 2007. This April we will be returning there again. Next mid week lunch run will be on FRIDAY 13 MARCH, 2015 to the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club at Fairview Park meeting at the Crafers Inn from 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS from Diane Holmes - Thursday 15 January, 2015. We have returned for another year of lunch runs — for the first month of the year it is lunch only and what a better place to start the year than at the Arkaba. Thank you to all the members notifying us by e-mail with bookings, cancellations and confirmations as this is an ideal way to communicate with us. It is a great reunion each year after the Christmas break and this year a relief as well to find out that our lunch run members, who live outside the metropolitan area had fared well in the recent bushfires. It is encouraging to find that members are still coming forward with suggestions for venues, which we will follow up to include in future runs. In March we are booked for FRIDAY 13th at the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club as they are not open for lunch on a Thursday so this will give members another opportunity to join us on a Friday. Next mid week lunch run will be on 12 February to The Goody Hotel at 75 Goodwood Rd. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 13 November, 2014. Another year is nearing the end and this was our last lunch run for 2014 as we always take a break in December. The weather forecast was for a hot day so it was a very easy drive via the freeway to our destination at Mt. Four new members came along this month so I must mention that air conditioned cars are an option for hot weather. Over 50 members participated this time and thank you for responding to my call for email bookings and cancellations. It is working a treat! At this stage we have booked several venues for 2015 and in March we will be going to the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club and that will be on a Friday as they are not open for lunch on Thursdays. Thank you so much for supporting the lunch runs for our eleventh year and it is heartening to see when checking our records that so many of the members, who came along on that first run to Strathalbyn remain regular attendees. Next year we will be meeting for lunch at The Arkaba, Fullarton at 12. The runs will resume on 12 February and please remember to book if you would like to participate as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. What a fabulous response we had this month for the lunch run with 75 attendees enjoying the spring visit to Tenafeate Creek Wines at One Tree Hill. When the lunch runs first commenced in 2004 we tried out Wednesdays and Thursdays before settling on the day, however this was the first time for a Friday so we will include some Fridays next year. We welcomed quite a few new faces this time and there was a wonderful showcase of MGs lining the driveway by the vineyard of this very inviting establishment. For members in the workforce we would highly recommend a weekend drive to this winery. Although there is a limited menu available the quality of the food and service were excellent and the view across the rolling countryside of One Tree Hill in the Mt. Lofty Ranges is a perfect place to relax outdoors. November will be the last lunch run for 2014 and our thanks to the members for some interesting suggestions for next year. There has been an increase in the bookings and cancellations by email, which is a great way to communicate with us as I will send a quick reply. Next mid week lunch run will be on Thursday 13 November 2014 to The Barker at Mt. Barker meeting at the Arkaba Hotel, Fullarton at 10. Spring was an ideal month for a longer drive down south through the lush green hills to the Alma Hotel, which Laurie Houghton kindly brought to my attention. We tried out Caffe Primo at Blackwood as the meeting place for this month. Thank you for all the positive comments from the members on the day as we will add that to our list for the future. A few months ago I included our email address if you need to book or cancel a booking and a few members have taken the opportunity to use this. I find it is a great way to communicate as now most of us have an email address. The October lunch is on a Friday for the first time and Laurie has kindly highlighted it in the magazine calendar. Next mid week lunch run will be on FRIDAY 10 October, 2014 to Tenafeate Wines at One Tree Hill meeting at Tea Tree Gully Hotel at 10. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS From Diane Holmes, Thursday 14 AUGUST, 2014. This was our third visit to the Lakes Resort and it is an excellent venue with a split level dining area and our group dines in the lower level where we can take full advantage of the view across the lake in between the many conversations taking place at the tables. Some members can only make the occasional visit so it was great to see Kerry Barnes, Gwenda Buckby and Dick Manning join us this month. We were so pleased to see Laine, who was a regular attendee with Bob King, returning again to the lunch runs. I should mention that hotels are not always receptive to the idea of us meeting there for coffee so I was pleasantly surprised with the reaction from Café Primo when I booked there as they have the experience with other car clubs. Well three more lunch runs left for this year and in October we will begin booking for 2015 and we look forward to meeting any new members who can come along in the future. Next mid week lunch run will be on 11 September, 2014 to the Alma Hotel, Willunga meeting at Café Primo, 180 Main Rd. If you would like to come please phone us as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS From Diane Holmes, Thursday 10 JULY, 2014. Back in August 2006 our car club received a letter of introduction from the new owners of the Meadows Hotel advising us of their services. I have just referred to that letter as I was so impressed with our visit this month and I was interested in the history of these owners and at the stage of writing the letter, they had been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. This is tiring work and they have lost none of their enthusiasm and you sense the happy friendly atmosphere in this establishment. We first visited this old country hotel in March 2007 and returned again in June 2008 and the prices have remained much the same. They deserve the business. I have checked these out on the Internet before visiting them and they appear to be very promising for 2015. At this stage I am amazed how we keep hearing about new ones for our lunches. Next mid week lunch run will be on 14 August, 2014 to The Lakes Resort Bistro at West Lakes meeting at The Maid, 1 Magill Rd. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. What an excellent venue - recommended to us by John Tamke and a first time visit for our group. It was an easy drive from The Arkaba to Blackwood as rain was forecast. Thanks to all those who brought along their MGs, for John as a member of the Golf Club was setting aside a parking area and he was there to direct our cars. It was especially easy to chat due to the excellent acoustics in the building. We are halfway through this year and I have now booked three of the four remaining venues for the year. August will be in the Adelaide area with a return visit to the Lakes Resort Bistro at West Lakes. October is also a return to the very popular Tenafeate Creek Winery at One Tree Hill, however the day will be changed for this month to FRIDAY so maybe that will be an opportunity for members, who are not free to come on a Thursday. November is our last lunch for the year and we are booked at The Barker again, which leaves a recommendation from Laurie for us to check out for September. Next mid week lunch run will be on 10 July, 2014 to the Meadows Hotel meeting at the Crafers Inn from 10. If you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. April saw the completion of a decade of the mid week lunch runs and it is interesting to refer to our records and note that quite a few of the original members have remained regular attendees. Thank you all for making this a popular event. During this time a handful of our members have celebrated their 80th birthdays and we very much admire Lawrie Foody, an octogenarian, who arrives in his TD each time. We met at the Crafers Inn in foggy conditions for our run down to Macclesfield to the Three Brothers Arms Hotel and this time we were seated in a large marquee at the back of the pub. They have increased their seating capacity since our last visit in November 2012. Fifty seven members were in attendance with 10 cancellations including some on the sick list and our best wishes go out to them. It was a nice surprise to hear from Raelene Secomb, a country member enquiring if there was a venue planned close to her vicinity. Nothing as yet, so she will check out Murray Bridge and Strathalbyn for us. Next mid week lunch will be on 8 May, 2014 to The Duck Inn at 393 Main Road, Coromandel Valley meeting at the Crafers Inn at 10. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 13 March, 2014. Autumn has arrived and it is a return to longer drives. Meeting for the first time at the Arkaba at Fullarton the weather was ideal for a run up Old Belair Road continuing onto Upper Sturt Road through to Crafers West then along Mt. Lofty Summit Road and back down Greenhill Road to the Goody Hotel. At the time he had a beautiful red MGBGT and then it was our aim to find one to buy. During autumn we will also have a look at the Alma in Willunga for a return to that area in spring. Next mid week lunch run will be on 10 April, 2014 to The Three Brothers Arms Hotel at Macclesfield and if you would like to come please remember to book as we need to confirm numbers for the venues. MID WEEK LUNCH RUN NEWS, from Diane Holmes, Thursday 13 February, 2014. Rain was forecast for today and it arrived early while we were meeting for coffee at the Maid. We visited this pub last February and I mentioned we would return again in summer, however this time it was without the heat. This venue continues to offers good value and the bonus for me is the efficient service from the staff. No interruptions all day - they just get on with the job and in our experience that is rare! If you find you have a free day on the second Thursday of the month please come along and join us. Next mid week lunch run will be on 13 March, 2014 to The Goody Hotel, 75 Goodwood Rd.
